About Ani

"Middle Eastern food is easy to find in the East Bay, but Ani is the real thing.
Ani's grandmother taught her recipes rooted in both Armenian tradition and the cuisine of southern Turkey. Ani was born in Jordan, and grew up in Lebanon, two more culinary influences. War pushed the family on to Athens. Wherever she lived, Ani says, every Sunday was like Thanksgiving, when family and friends poured into the house to share food. And always, Ani cooked.
When she came to the US, Ani attended culinary school, all the while cooking for friends. By word-of-mouth this grew into Ani Catering gathering into its orbit members of the San Francisco opera, scientists and astronauts -  along with bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, baptisms, and more.
The party always seems to come to Ani, and its the sense of community here that drew her to Kensington and keeps her here. And the healthy, authentic foods of the eastern Mediterranean keep the buzz going at Ani's booth. So, if you're a party animal, just sayin, let Ani handle the food for you, fun just seems to follow her around."

""We hired Ani and her staff for an event in our large medical building. She was highly professional, easy to work with and thoughtful of our guests. Her food was high quality, fresh and the presentation was wonderful. Her hummus was to die for. The large chopped greek style salad was as full of bright flavors as it was colorful. Her staff were friendly and responsive. She was able to work with our medical building to provide the food in an organized an fluid food service line. While we are a large building we do not have in house food delivery. It took some creativity and responsiveness from her and her crew to make this event feel highly professional, organized and creative. I would recommend Ani and her crew to anyone."

""Been remiss about a shoutout for this stall at the Kensington Farmers Market. The food hits a sweet spot. At first take it is seems to be Lebanese homestyle prepared with genuine warmth. At the same time the breadth of the menu and depth of the dishes point to a sophisticated professionalism and the opposite of a parochial approach to food. You get the feeling Ani has been cooking at a high level for decades. Watch her navigate her stall, which seems over equipped, but allows her to create what she wants today from a huge repertoire. So you won't get bored. I'd say she's the real deal. Word to the unwise: don't forget dessert."

""I have traveled to more than 60 countries and have had my fair share of lahmacun. Ani's lahmacun is by far one of the best that I have ever tasted. I love the fact that she uses grass fed meat and the freshest ingredients. She was so friendly and just a pleasure to speak with. I also really loved her tabule, it was amazing. Stop by to see her on Sundays at the Kensington Farmer s market. Delicious food and a great value!"

""We asked chef Ani to cater a 25-person dinner for us at our house. We already knew Ani's cooking from the farmer's market where her spanakopita, lamb kebbeh, and chicken wrapped in filo dough with cinnamon had won us over. For the dinner, we ordered some of Ani's classic items such as falafels, stuffed grape leaves, and chicken pomegranate. We also ordered stuffed eggplants and fresh-baked bread with a zaatar (wild thyme) topping. Everything was delicious. I was blown away by the spanakopita, kebbeh, tahini sauce, the hot sauce, and the grape leaves, which had a delectable smoky flavor. Ani came into our kitchen and instructed us on how to heat and serve each item, and she set it all up before leaving. Our whole family loved her and the food."

""We get something at Ani's every Sunday we're at the Farmers Market. Fresh, quick and delicious, even my carnivore boyfriend is satisfied (and has a smile on his face!) after the falafel plate. Well worth a stop."

"This woman really knows how to cook! I come to the farmers market whenever I can to get my falafel wrap and baklava. It is becoming a great Sunday afternoon ritual. High quality ingredients and careful preparation. Never disappoints!"

"Great Mediterranean food, and for a good price. Always stop by to grab some food from her when I'm at the farmers Market (if you don't go you should). I always get the Baklava and it is superb. Have not received catering by Ani but if it's anything like the food it will be great."

Miles F.

"The food was fantastic.   We gave some as care packages for some of our friends and ate the rest today (all 3 meals!!)"
